This pair of chopsticks is crafted using the traditional Tsugaru-nuri lacquer technique from Aomori, featuring the distinctive Karanuri pattern. The set combines two classic colors—Ro (deep black) and Akane (madder red)—each revealing layers of speckled patterns created through multiple stages of lacquering, polishing, and finishing. No two patterns are ever the same, giving each pair a unique character.

Lacquerware has long been valued in Japan not only for its beauty and durability, but also for its natural antibacterial properties, which have been scientifically recognized. This makes lacquered chopsticks especially suitable for everyday dining, offering both comfort and cleanliness with each use.

The smooth texture of natural lacquer fits comfortably in the hand, and the glossy surface subtly reflects light, enhancing the elegance of every meal. As a matching pair, these chopsticks make a thoughtful gift for couples or families, and a beautiful addition to any table setting.

Precautions for using lacquerware

  • Please handle lacquerware with care, as the surface can be delicate.
  • When storing or using it together with other items, friction or accidental scratches may cause the lacquer coating to wear or peel.
  • Wash gently by hand, wipe dry with a soft cloth, and store in a place away from direct sunlight.
This will help preserve the lacquer surface for many years.
  • Do not soak the item in water. Prolonged exposure may cause the lacquer to deteriorate or peel.
  • Avoid using microwave ovens, ovens, direct heat, or dishwashers, as these may damage the lacquerware.
  • As this is a handcrafted lacquer item, please take care to avoid impacts, rubbing, or dropping it, as this may cause the lacquer to peel or the surface sheen to fade.
