Crafted in Aomori, Japan, this charming apple-shaped box is finished using Tsugaru-nuri, a traditional lacquerware technique known for its durability and richly layered patterns. The exterior features the Karanuri style, where multiple layers of lacquer are applied, polished, and revealed to create a distinctive speckled texture. The exterior features a vivid red known as Madder Red (Akane-iro), layered with black and brown speckled patterns that create the deep, textured expression characteristic of the Karanuri style. When the lid is closed, the piece takes on the smooth, glossy form of a ripe apple, offering a charming presence that fits gently in the palm of your hand.
Each Tsugaru-nuri item is made through a long, meticulous process of coating, drying, sanding, and polishing—resulting in a finish that is both exceptionally strong and beautifully unique. No two pieces ever share the same pattern, making this apple box a one-of-a-kind work of craftsmanship.
Traditionally, such lidded containers can be used as a bonbonnière or candy dish, perfect for holding small sweets. However, its versatility extends far beyond that. Use it as a keepsake box for jewelry, keys, or desk accessories, or simply display it as a decorative accent that brings warmth and character to your space.
A playful design paired with the depth of traditional lacquer artistry, the Ringo Bonbon makes a delightful gift and a timeless addition to any home.

Precautions for using lacquerware
- Please handle lacquerware with care, as the surface can be delicate.
- When storing or using it together with other items, friction or accidental scratches may cause the lacquer coating to wear or peel.
- Wash gently by hand, wipe dry with a soft cloth, and store in a place away from direct sunlight.
- This will help preserve the lacquer surface for many years.
- Do not soak the item in water. Prolonged exposure may cause the lacquer to deteriorate or peel.
- Avoid using microwave ovens, ovens, direct heat, or dishwashers, as these may damage the lacquerware.
- As this is a handcrafted lacquer item, please take care to avoid impacts, rubbing, or dropping it, as this may cause the lacquer to peel or the surface sheen to fade.
