Kabazaiku, a craft passed down in Kakunodate, Akita, is a rare natural material craft in Japan, finished using the bark of wild cherry trees. The artisans carefully glue each piece of bark to create a unique item, utilizing the natural luster, patterns, and texture of the bark itself, so no two pieces have the same appearance.
This teacup coaster is made entirely of wild cherry bark. Depending on the angle of the light, the luster of the cherry bark subtly changes, revealing various expressions from a deep amber to a reddish glow. Each time you hold it, you can feel the warmth unique to natural materials and the high quality of Kakunodate Kabazaiku.
Originally intended to hold sencha teacups, in modern life, it also serves as a versatile small tray. For example:
-
Accessory tray
-
Candle plate
-
Key and coin catch-all
-
Serving plate for small sweets or tea snacks
-
Decorative display tray
The natural, subdued colors blend well with both Japanese and Western interiors, adding a touch of elegance.
Being a set of 5, it's perfect for serving sencha to guests, and also offers the enjoyment of using them for different purposes.
(Sencha teacups are not included.)
