This is a vintage Aizu lacquerware candy dish made during the Showa period.
The company that manufactured this product, Kyosei Kogei, no longer exists, but in the past (1970s) it was a company possessing advanced skills and even won a Technology Award from the Japan Paint Technology Association.
This vessel, finished with such high skill, has a lustrous black inner vermilion finish (black on the outside and vermilion on the inside) and is decorated with a picture of leaf buds around the edges.
The natural wood base is finished with a coat of genuine lacquer, making it durable, lightweight, and easy to use for everyday use.
The round, bulging shape and the lustrous color of the genuine lacquer make it perfect for storing and enjoying Japanese sweets.

Precautions for Using Lacquerware
- Please handle lacquerware with care, as the surface can be delicate.
- When storing or using it together with other items, friction or accidental scratches may cause the lacquer coating to wear or peel.
- Wash gently by hand, wipe dry with a soft cloth, and store in a place away from direct sunlight.
This will help preserve the lacquer surface for many years. - Do not soak the item in water. Prolonged exposure may cause the lacquer to deteriorate or peel.
- Avoid using microwave ovens, ovens, direct heat, or dishwashers, as these may damage the lacquerware.
- As this is a handcrafted lacquer item, please take care to avoid impacts, rubbing, or dropping it, as this may cause the lacquer to peel or the surface sheen to fade.
