This Aizu lacquerware plate captures the quiet harmony of depth, light, and traditional craftsmanship.
Its surface is adorned with Kinmushikui-nuri (golden insect-eaten lacquer), one of the signature and most intricate techniques of Aizu lacquerware.
The process begins with a layer of black lacquer, onto which barley grains or rice husks are sprinkled before the lacquer dries.
Once fully dried, the grains are removed, leaving behind a distinctive textured surface.
Colored lacquer is then applied, followed by a sprinkling of silver powder. After drying, the piece is carefully polished with charcoal, revealing organic, “insect-eaten” patterns unique to this technique.
It is a labor-intensive method requiring 48 individual steps, each carried out by a skilled artisan.
This piece is crafted by Nobuhiro Yoshii, widely regarded as a leading master of Kinmushikui-nuri.
Depending on the angle of the light, the golden tones shift subtly, creating a shimmering landscape across the surface.
The plate can be displayed as an art piece, bringing a refined presence to any space.
It also pairs beautifully with seasonal sweets, fruits, or simple dishes, enhancing the quiet elegance of everyday moments.
A fusion of tradition, artistry, and meticulous craftsmanship—this plate invites you to experience the timeless beauty of Japanese lacquerware.
A resin display stand is included for showcasing the plate.

Precautions when using lacquer products
- Please be careful when handling lacquerware.
- When storing or using the tableware with other tableware, rubbing it against other tableware or scratching it with nails can cause the lacquer or urethane coating to peel off.
- Please wash gently by hand, dry with a soft cloth, and store out of direct sunlight. Please strictly follow these instructions to protect the painted surface for a long time.
- Do not soak the product in water as this may cause the paint to deteriorate or peel off.
- Never use the product in a microwave, oven, over an open flame, or in a dishwasher, as this may cause damage to the painted surface.
- As this is a lacquerware item, please take care when it comes into contact with other items, rubs against them, or drops. This can cause the paint to peel or lose its luster.
